SPEAKING PROPOSAL CRITERIA

NUBE is the premier annual conference focused specifically on behavioral emergency management – which occurs primarily (though not exclusively) within emergency and/or crisis settings. NUBE’s primary goal is to advance knowledge in the management of behavioral emergencies. Preferred NUBE presentations focus on topics in behavioral emergency management such as the care of special populations, new advances in care, diagnostic or management dilemmas, diversity and equity considerations, implementation of quality or evidence-based practices, patient/staff safety, substance use disorders, clinician well-being, interesting case series, etc. Speaker presentations are expected to be interactive, creative, and dynamic given the mixed conference audience. “Rapid fire” presentations (15-20 minutes) are especially popular for attendees and speakers. Attendees should leave with specific educational knowledge and skills about various aspects of the topic and how it relates to their future development or patient care management. Presentations should refrain from promoting a specific business, product, or service.

AUDIENCE

The primary conference audience and presenters consist of psychiatrists, emergency medicine physicians, APPs, nurses, social workers, psychologists, and trainees. Lecture content and instruction should be geared to a level that is appropriate for the target audience and is inclusive of the various types of providers in the audience.

SUBMISSIONS

In the submission portal, you will be asked to provide: type of presentation (i.e., poster,  “rapid fire” presentation (15-20 min), or general session (30+ min)), general topic area, a 500-word abstract, and 3 learning objectives.

Trainees are specifically invited to submit for the poster session. All trainee-led presentations (i.e., trainee as first author) will be automatically considered for this year’s NUBE Trainee Poster Competition. If selected as one of the top Trainee Submissions, the trainee will be invited to present the work as a brief oral paper (5-7 minutes at the conference) and will receive a prize.

SPEAKER REQUIREMENTS, IF SELECTED

If accepted, a photograph, brief bio (up to 500 words), CV, and Conflict of Interest statement for all planned speaker(s) must be submitted. These requests are required to secure continuing education for the program. All accepted submissions must be uploaded in their entirety to the conference website for CE review ahead of the conference (typically 2 weeks before the conference). Although not required, speakers will be asked at the time of acceptance for permission to be recorded by AudioDigest at the conference.
